My friends Sherah and Trish made the most amazing, awesome kit ever. It’s called Scientific Romance delivered in steampunk style. Don’t know what steampunk is? Neither did I until my son came home from school as one of the main characters in Romeo and Juliet. He said they were doing the play steampunk style. Huh? What? I was so confused. So of course I had to google it, but that still didn’t the give the feel for it. It’s sort of like Queen Victoria meets Mr. Gadget. It’s like Sci-Fi meet Victorian…

All I know is that it was the best $7 I’ve spent on digital scrapbooking because it has ALL THAT in a Mega Kit! I hope you all enjoy steampunk as much as I do!

Remembering Roberto

I know that I’ve come to you my readers before in sorrow over losing a student. This year has been especially difficult. I was thinking back over the last few years, and I realized that I have had 6 students pass away in the last 4 years. It never really makes a difference if you know they are fragile, and they struggle with each breath, you miss them deeply when they are gone. Roberto was the sweetest little boy, with chocolate brown eyes, and eyelashes that went on forever. He was a bit of a flirt, and would light up the room with his smile! Just the week before we made arrangements to take his 5th Grade Graduation photos to commemorate him going to middle school. It was so sudden, and before we knew it he was gone! Working with special needs students is sometimes very difficult, and this is one of those times.

Making a Form

Possible Uses:

Applications for Creative Teams, Designers, Employees, etc.

Step 1 – Gmail

You must have a gmail or google account to use Google Docs. Personally, I have enjoyed the “no spam” from Gmail, very nice. Click HERE to create a Gmail account. In doing this you will create a Google Account.

Step 2 – Go to Google Documents. I love Google Documents, it’s a great way to share online information.

Step 3 – Create your form.

In Google Docs click “CREATE NEW” and select FORM.

On the form, you will have a lot of options

1. Choose your theme
2. Name the form
3. Write your question(s)
4. Choose your question type
(means how do you want your answer displayed).
5. More actions (edit your response)

Step 4 – Create an image for your document. I used the PRINT SCREEN option (click HERE to see how) to crop the header of my document to add to my website.For the main column make sure the width does not exceed 400 pixels, and for the side bar make sure the width does not exceed 220 pixels. Upload your FORM IMAGE you created to a photo hosting site. Get the URL (Uniform Resource Location) or LINK.

Step 5 – Create your code. Using the code below, add the form link in between the first set of quotation marks, and your image link between the second set of quotation marks.

Step 6 – Add the code to your blog. You can add this code in a post or anywhere on the layout of your blog. To add to the layout of your blog:

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/PAGE ELEMENTS/ADD A GADGET and select HTML/Java Script. Add the code and click SAVE.

You can use this form for anything! When you collect your information you go to your Google Docs account, and the form name information will be put in a spreadsheet. Just remember to check your documents to see if you have responses.

Guest Counter Gadget

This is a unique counter that counts the number of times a person visits your blog, and allows them to see that count. It’s simple to add to your blog. It does make for an extra button for your guests to push to get to your blog (an OK button) so maybe you will ask for feedback to see if your readers like it. You can let me know what you think since I will try it on my blog for a bit.

Step 1 – Customize the code to your specifics. Copy and paste the code onto a word document, so that you can scroll to find the message portion. For visits 1-10 you will give a little message, then after that, it will always be the last (tenth) message you wrote.

Step 2 – Add a gadget

Photobucket & Sizing

I have seen a lot of bloggers have issues with Photobucket sizing their backgrounds correctly, and buttons as well. I learned something recently when I was trying to first upload buttons, then trying to upload a background image. The buttons were too large no matter how many times I checked the sizes. I finally had to log out of Photobucket, then log back in to get the sizes right. Here's a good rule of thumb when using Photobucket: TINY and SMALL for tabs and buttons, and 1 megabyte file size for blog backgrounds. Here’s how you change the sizes in Photobucket.

Once you CLICK MORE OPTIONS, you will see the popup window. Then you will make your selection of size you would like.

It seems to me the trick is to log in and out of Photobucket to get the size you want. I believe there is a glitch in the system. When I was making buttons the other day, I finally had to log out and select TINY for my buttons. No matter how hard I tried the button size would not come out right. I think this is something relatively new because I never had this issue before.

Just as a side note: Scrapbook Flair allows you to upload any pages full size (up to like 250 images) before you have to buy their more premium service. If you keep the resolution at 72 or 96 pixels for webbing viewing, it lowers the amount of space you use. I also love Scrapbook Flair for the free downloads and the awesome community of scrappers! Arches on your blog!

I’ve created a blog background template that has arches! I think that it looks unique! The template is at the bottom of the page, but it’s jpg only. I can share it in DIP (Digital Image Pro) upon request. Here’s the background I created using Pomp & Circumstance mini kit from my friend Candee (formerly CanDesigns). I just learned how to add Plugins to my Microsoft Digital Image Suite and I’m excited about the new tools. One of the tools is called Inner Bevel. I used it to make this glittery Christmas Alpha. Enjoy! All uppercase letters are individually cut out. The lower case, numbers and symbols are on 12 x 12 sheets. It’s for personal use only.

Adding a Text Box

Dawn at Almost Ready Blogs gave me this code, and I’m going to share it with you (thank you thank you Dawn!). It’s perfect for posting your blinkie, along with the code for others to snag your blinkie as well.

The code is broken into two sections. The first section tells the website that you are creating an image (your blinkie) with a text box below it. The second section of code is for the blog reader to copy and paste the code to add your blinkie to their blog. Learn to make your own blinkie HERE.

The two sections of code are put together to add it to your blog.

Step 1 – Sample Code

Here is a sample code Dawn made for me. It would be used to 1) Add my blinkie and text area box and 2) allow others to copy and paste the code to snag my blinkie. Sometimes seeing the complete code helps you create your own.

Here’s what it looks like:

Step 2 – Section ONE: Add your specific information. You can adjust the size of your text box here in this section of code by increasing/decreasing the width and/or the height.

Step 3 – Section TWO (what will show in the box): Add your specific information about what will go into the text area box

Step 4 – Put the two pieces of code together (with your specific information). It should look like this:

Step 5 – Add the code to your blog.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/PAGE ELEMENT/Add a GADGET

Select HTML/Java Script, and when the window pops up add the code from step 4.

Click the SAVE button.

Transparent Navbar

Blogger has created a new option for the navbar (navigational bar) that runs across the top of your blog.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT

You will see the NAVBAR in the middle of your layout. On the right of the NAVBAR is the word EDIT. Click on this and you can select the new Transparent Navbar. I also have directions for making your Navbar disappear, except when you mouse over it. You can find those HERE!

We had so much fun tonight. We had Trunk or Treat at our neighborhood apartment as a part of our church ministry…It was so much fun! The kids were super sweet. We live at the end of the street, and have not had many tricker or treaters, which makes me sad…we always do the “good” candy, or as my sweet husband says, “I want to spoil the kids.”

My son and his friends said this hilarious little quote, and I started cracking up. I said, I’m going to make a word art with that. I hope you enjoy my little Halloween treat!

Update-Post Separator

Creating a POST SEPARATOR This is an update of the post found HERE. This may be a good solution if you have your photos overlapping each other and not holding their space in the blog.

Several people were having trouble with the code in the previous post so I looked into and there was some chatter about using the word separator too many times in the code, so I changed it to post-separator, and so far it has worked beautifully. If your current post separator is working as is, then there should be no need to change it. Well, here it goes:

Step 1 - Create and upload your image
Create an image (GIF, JPG or PNG). My POST SEPARATOR is in PNG format, because I prefer the transparent background. Make sure your images are no larger than the following:
400 x 50 pixels (96 dpi)
Upload your finished image to your favorite photo hosting site and get the direct link code. Save it for later.
Step 2 – Backup your blog template.
You can find directions to do that here.
Step 3 – Delete the dotted lines between posts.
Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/EDIT HTML and use your CTRL F (hold the control key and the F key together) to FIND the word dotted, and delete it. You should find the word twice in your code. Preview to see if the dotted line between posts is gone. Click Save Template.
Step 4 – Change your HTML code.
Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/EDIT HTML and look in the * / Footer section for a piece of code that has ]] > </b:skin> in it. You will place the following code with your image link in it right BEFORE this code, and after the } symbol. See the following screen shots.

Click Save Template.

Step 5 – Change your HTML code again.
This has to be two separate steps. I’ve tried to make it one step and it doesn’t work. Make sure you click the EXPAND WIDGETS box, or you will not be able to find the code.
Find this part of your code in your HTML:

The fastest way to find it is to hit the CTRL and the F (FIND OPTION) to open a search box to find what you need in your code. You can search the number 3 to find it. There are a lot of 3’s so make sure you find the code in its entirety.

Change Your Blog Font

Here’s a quick way to change your blog font very simply. Using any True Type Font you have on your computer, you can create a unique look for your blog. **Please note only guests that have the same font on their computer will see your blog the way you see it, so if you use an extremely unique font, only you will be able to see it, everyone else will see a default font. To change your font, you will add your code as a gadget.

Step 1 - Copy and paste the following code onto a Word Document:

Step 2 – Choose the True Type Font you want

Choose your font and make sure you are spelling it correctly…LOL!

Step 3 – Edit your Word Document

Using your editing tools in your word document, you can change the font to whatever font you like. Just remember the font will only show for each computer that has the font. In your word document select the Find and Replace button (may be under editing), and you will type in the font your are changing (for this sample code select Century Schoolbook for the FIND search box, and then choose your font choice for the REPLACE box.

Click the REPLACE ALL button, you should have 17 replacements. Save the code to place in the gadget box.

Step 4 – Add your code to your blog

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/ADD A GADGET and select HTML Java Script. Insert the code you saved in Step 2. You can insert the code using copy CTRL + C and paste CTRL + V keys. Save your gadget.

The nice thing is if you don’t like it you can delete the gadget…super simple.

Label drop down menu

Bree one of my favorite digi-scrappers asked me how to create a label drop down menu. I said I don’t know but I will learn. I did and I love it…thanks Bree!

Step 1 – Add a labels gadget to your blog.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/PAGE ELEMENTS/ADD A GADGET and select LABELS.

Step 2 – Decide if you want labels alone or label counts. If you want labels with the count beside them proceed to Step 3. If you only want labels skip to Step 5.

Step 3 – Back up your template. You can learn how to do that HERE.

Step 4 – Find and replace code.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/EDIT HTML AND using your CTRL+F (find key) find the following code:

You can preview and save. The nice thing is that you can always choose to delete the gadget if you don’t like it. You can also change the word Labels to something else if you prefer.

Hello friends and guests!

I would love to see some responses and some comments if my tutorials have helped you (and many thanks to those that have commented). I am also pretty quick to respond to questions (if I know the answer), and I will let you know if I don't have the answer I try to find it for you. I just love teaching, I guess that's why my school selected me as the Teacher of the Year! Then amazingly, I am now a finalist for our County Teacher of the Year. That's one of the reasons I've been so very busy lately! I should find out if I made it in the next few weeks. Any way, it is a great honor!

Do you want your readers to have a custom search engine, that searches your blog first? What a great tool for finding kits, and other goodies! Make sure as you write your posts you add key words, like how you might be able to use a kit, etc.

Google makes it so simple! Just add the following code as a gadget.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/PAGE ELEMENTS/ADD A GADGET

Select HTML Java Script and add the following code:

Drop Down Menus

This is a great way to save space on your blog. I found this amazing resource over a Sneaky Momma Blog Design, she has got some great tutorials. You know me I like to try to make it REALLY user friendly. Thanks Jill! Resource: Sneaky Momma Blog Design and Technical Bliss

Step 1 – Make a COMPLETE LINK LIST

In Word create a link list of all the links (along with a title) you want to put in your Drop Down Menu, like this:

Copy and paste the code above as many times as you need for all your links. It would look like this for four links:

<option value="YOUR URL LINK D"/>YOUR TITLE D

This method will also help you put your links in alphabetical order if you choose.

Step 2 – Create a planning document

Using Word or Windows Live Writer create a planning document.

You will remove all the spaces from your COMPLETE LINK LIST like this:

Please note there is no space between the Title of your Drop Down Menu and YOU COMPLETE LINK LIST.

Hide your Navbar

You can hide your Navbar, in a Peek-A-Boo style. You can see the code in action, by clicking on my photo website My Photo Heart. If you put your cursor at the top of the page the Navbar will show.
This cool tool was made by Bloggeratto, and touted by Pocket. I liked this tutorial so much, that I used it on Easy Custom Blogs as well. This does not work consistently with IE (Internet Explorer) but works great with Mozilla.

Step 1 - Back up your template.

Step 2 – Edit your HTML.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/EDIT HTML

You will FIND this in your code by pressing the CTRL and the F key together. Put this code

Protect Your Graphics

I’ve had many request to help protect graphics that are shared on websites. I found this awesome script, and just tried it as a gadget and it worked! If you right click on any of the graphics on Easy Custom Blogs, you will get this message, “Thanks for looking but this is MemoryKeeper’s work, please ask permission.”

Step 1 – Add the code

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/PAGE ELEMENTS/ADD A GADGET, and select HTML Java Script. Add the code below as it is, or you can customize the portion in bold to suit your specific needs.

Making Footer Columns

Would you like to have more room on your blog? The best way is to create more spaces to put your gadgets and such!

The standard blog has one gadget area for the bottom of your blog.

Step 1 – Back up your template. The instructions are here.

Step 2 - Clear your footer space.

You will want to move all gadgets out of the footer area by clicking on the gadget and holding your mouse key and moving the gadget to the side for now.

Step 3 – Edit your HTML

Create Header in PowerPoint

Step 1 – Download your blog accessories kit (digital papers and embellishments)

You can find many freebie sites on the web. For my lesson today I am using my friend Linda’s new Showers of Flowers kit. You can get the freebie at Bon Scrapatit (but only for a short time). There are many other sites too. You can go to Creative Busy Hands, Digifree, and Ikea Goddess for more lists of freebies.

You will download your files as a zip folder. I always create a new folder in My Documents that has the designer and kit name. After downloading, you will unzip the files, by right clicking on the file, and selecting “EXTRACT HERE.”

Step 2 – Save the PP Blog Header Template

When you double click on the picture below you will be taken to the actual template image. It will open in a new window, right click on the image and choose SAVE IMAGE as or SAVE LINK and put it in the same folder as your kit from step 1.

Step 3 – Open a new PowerPoint

First remove all text/picture boxes from your slide.

Format the size of your PowerPoint. Go to FILE/PAGE SETUP and choose CUSTOM slide size, and select the following:

Width: 6.8 inches ~ Height: 2.8 inches ~ and then hit OK.

Step 4 – Add the template

Select the Insert key and choose PICTURE, and then choose FROM FILE. Find the folder you created, and select the Blog Background template from that folder.

Step 5 – Add accessories

Using the template as a guide line, add papers and embellishments. Please note that when you add the images they will be extremely large, so the first thing you will do is reduce the size. After you add an image right click on the image and select FORMAT PICTURE. Select size, and change the first number to 2 inches. Sometimes if you make the image small, it seems to disappear. Use your scroll bar and go to the far left, and top and you will usually find your image.

To move images about on your page, just click on the image and holding the mouse key move the image. To resize the image click on the corner to resize, otherwise you will lose the ratio.

You can move images to the front or back of the page (slide) by right clicking, and selecting ORDER.

Once you have a set of embellishments that you like you can group them together to move or resize. You group by right clicking and selecting GROUPING.

Step 6 – Save the slide

You will save the slide when you are finished as a PowerPoint image, which allows you to make any changes. When you have the final image that you want, you will save the image as a jpg. Go to FILE, SAVE AS and when the window opens, use your mouse to scroll to JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg). Choose CURRENT SLIDE ONLY. Save in the same folder so you will know where to find it.

Step 7 - Upload your image (optional)

Upload your image to your favorite hosting site like Photobucket, and save the DIRECT IMAGE LINK. Since you can upload your image for you header directly from your computer, this step is optional.

Step 8 – Install your new header

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/PAGE ELEMENTS/HEADER

You may upload the image from your computer, or select the image from the photo hosting site. Choose to use the image INSTEAD OF THE TEXT.

Click save and view blog!

Step 9 - OPTIONAL ANIMATION

I went to Luna Pic and added sparkles, and then resized my image back to the original size.

Create Your Own Background

I have a big surprise for you! Even if you don’t have Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro or my personal favorite, Microsoft Digital Image Pro, you can make your own blog accessories (blog background and blog header) using Microsoft PowerPoint. You heard correctly, you can create with Microsoft PowerPoint.

I received an email from Jey (thanks so much by the way), asking HOW DO I MAKE MY OWN BACKGROUND? I was trying to think of something simple. I know there are great free sites out there, such as Scrapbook Flair, and Scrapblog, but they don’t allow you to size the images as you wish.

There are also other free photo editing sites such as GIMP, and Paint but I don’t know how to use them, and for simplicity I selected to use a familiar simple program, that most people already have on their computer.

Step 1 – Download your blog accessories kit (digital papers and embellishments)

Step 2 – Save the PP Blog Template

Step 3 – Open a new PowerPoint

Format the size of your PowerPoint. Go to FILE/PAGE SETUP and choose CUSTOM slide size, and select the following:

Width: 11 inches ~ Height: 7.2 inches ~ and then hit OK.

Step 4 – Add the template

Custom Email Header

If you use Feedburner for your subscriptions, this is going to be an exciting tutorial on adding a custom header to the email generated by your posts.

To get Feedburner, a wonderful FREE subscription service, click here.

Step 1 – Scrap your custom header

I scrap my header in the following dimensions and then resize for clarity:

4500 x 1860 pixels (300 resolution)

Resize to 450 x 186 (72 resolution)

UPDATE 7/2/09: I increased the final size of my header to 650 x 268 and it turned out great on the email.

Save as a jpg (smaller files).

Step 2 – Upload your finished image

Upload your finished image to your favorite photo hosting site and get the direct link code. I like Photobucket and Scrapbookflair. Save the DIRECT LINK.

Step 3 – Go to My Feeds in your Feedburner account.

Click on the feed you want to customize, if you have more than one.

Step 4 – Select PUBLICIZE

From the choice of 5 tabs, select publicize, the middle tab.

From the SERVICES menu to the left, choose Email Subscriptions, then choose Email Branding.

Just below the “Email Subject/Title:” you will see a box titled: Logo URL: this box is where you will put your DIRECT IMAGE LINK you saved from Step 2.

Step 5 - Click SAVE or ACTIVATE.

UPDATE: LATE BREAKING NEWS! IT WORKED!

I just checked my mailbox, and there is definitely a header in my Easy Custom Blogs email. I wonder if I make it longer will it bump the Easy Custom Blogs part to the top or bottom of the image? Discovered on Kathy’s Blog Just Being Crafty

I am trying something new. I found a very cool site called Jing Project that allows you to video and narrate onscreen instructions. I created this video tutorial in Jing, but I must warn you there is only 5 minutes, so it’s very fast (well if it plays straight through...LOL). Also make sure you use your scroll bar on the side to move the video up/down and right/left as the capture video I did was quite large. I did not make any retakes, so for what it’s worth, you are welcome to view the video by clicking on the image below, and when the link opens click on the start arrow:

Step 1 - Create your image

Create an image (GIF, JPG or PNG). My OLDER/NEWER/HOME buttons are in PNG format, because I prefer the transparent background. Make sure your images are no larger than the following:
110 pixels in width (96 dpi) I always make mine much larger such as 1100 x 1100 pixels 300 dpi and resize for clarity.

Step 2 – Upload your finished image Upload your finished image to your favorite photo hosting site and get the direct link code. I like Photobucket and Scrapbookflair. Add these codes to your planning document, by inserting them as the DIRECT IMAGE LINK in this code:

Step 3 – Backup your blog template.
You can find directions to do that here.

Step 4 – Change your HTML code.
Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/EDIT HTML and check the EXPAND widgets box.

You will be looking for and replacing 3 pieces of code (one for each link in your blog NEWER POSTS, OLDER POSTS and HOME. One of my favorite key strokes are the CTRL+C (copy) and the CTRL+V (paste). You can highlight and copy and paste for each section.

{SAMPLE INSTRUCTIONS}

A. Highlight <data:newerPageTitle/> with your cursor, and then click the CTRL+C (COPY) keys together.

B. Go to the HTML, and press the CTRL+F (FIND) keys and then put your cursor in the box, and hit your CTRL+V (PASTE) keys and you will paste the code you are looking for into the box.

C. Go to your planning document and CTRL+C copy the <img src='DIRECT IMAGE LINK FOR NEWER'/> with your actual link in the code.

D. Go back to the HTML and replace the <data:newerPageTitle/> and replace it by highlighting it an using your CTRL+V paste keys.

E. Do the same step for each portion of the code.

You will find and replace <data:newerPageTitle/> with the digital image you scrapped for newer (next) posts {See SAMPLE instructions above}

You will find and replace <data:olderPageTitle/> with the digital image you scrapped for older (previous) posts

You will find and replace <data:homeMsg/> (only the first one) with the digital image you scrapped for home

Step 5 – PREVIEW your blog.
Because you are only seeing the first page of your blog, you will have to trust that the NEWER and HOME buttons are working if the OLDER POSTS button is visible.

Step 6 – Save Template and View your blog.

Favicon Update

This is to update a previous post, and has current links.

A favicon is the icon that shows up in the address line. I have a scrolling “E” in my address bar instead of the default orange blogger icon. To get directions on making a scrolling favicon click HERE.

To change your icon is a multi-step process, but once you do, it’s really very simple.

Step 1 - Create an icon.
Icons must be very simple. Otherwise you will not be able to tell what they are. They are usually about 16 x 16 pixels or 32 x 32 pixels, so you can see they are quite small. You can create an icon in many ways. I usually create mine in a 100 x 100 size, and the image converter resizes it for me. I also save it as a JPG.
1. You can create one in some photo editing programs
2. You can create an image and convert it in an online converter, like Online Image Converter.
3. You can select a pre-made icon from sites like Free Icons Web. 4. You can also create an animated file (GIF) and upload to your favorite photo hosting site like Photobucket or Scrapbook Flair. Make sure your image is no larger than 48 x 48 pixels. I made an animated image you can see HERE on my Real Test Blog. So really, if you want to make a GIF file (like my flashing RTB on my Real Test Blog) you do not have to make an .ICO file.

Step 2 – Upload your icon or your GIF file.
1. You will need to upload your icon to a photo hosting site that accepts .ICO files (icon files). The one is use for ICONS is PicPanda.
2. Save your icon link (the one on PicPanda says SEND to friends link) to paste in your code.

Step 3 – Back up your template
Backup your template before making any changes. Click HERE to see how.

Step 4 - Add the code. Did you backup your template?
1. Look for the following code in your HTML by going to the LAYOUT TAB, then selecting HTML, this part of the code is near the top of your HTML:

or if you have this in your code:

Directly after the above code, you will add your FAVICON CODE:

2. Preview your blog before saving. You should see the Favicon in your address bar. Give your page plenty of time to load. Make sure it is something you want and like.
3. If you are satisfied with your Favicon, then select SAVE.
Occasionally, the online ICO hosting site may be down, and your icon will not show up. This is generally temporary, and nothing to be concerned about.

If you add the Fairy Dust Mouse Trails, this code follows that long piece of code.

Scrolling sidebar with links

SIDEBAR LINKED IMAGES WITHIN A VERTICAL SCROLL

Step 1 - Create each image you want in your sidebar scroll.

The final dimensions for a 2-column minima blog are

220 pixels width (height is up to you, but should not exceed 220 pixels)

96 Resolution

I scrap mine at 2200 pixels and resize for clarity.

***IMPORTANT – For quality make sure all your images are the same size.

Step 2 - Upload your image.

Upload your image to your favorite photo hosting site. I like Photobucket and Scrapbook Flair. Get the DIRECT LINK codes, and place them on your planning document.

Step 3 – Create a planning document.

In a word document write down each of the images you would like to be included in your scroll and list the URL (web address) with it. When you get your DIRECT IMAGE LINK you will add that too. Here’s a sample of a planning document:

Continue making your planning document. When you are finished, you can delete all the spaces and words and leave just the code so it will be similar to our marquee code below. You will then copy and paste this code into the marquee code to complete your sidebar vertical scroll.

Step 3 – Make your code on your planning document.

Your final code will look like this:

Here is my ACTUAL CODE that I have on my test blog (DO NOT COPY THIS ONE) for those of you that are visual learners. You can see this code in action by clicking HERE.

Step 4 – Add your code by adding a gadget.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/PAGE ELEMENTS/ADD A GADGET.

Select the ADD A GADGET from your sidebar. A window will popup with various choices, select HTML JAVA SCRIPT. You will then add your FINAL CODE by inserting information into the code below. The number on the code is the speed. The higher the number the faster the scroll rolls. URL is the web address! IMAGE LINK is where you uploaded your image.

To add more images/websites add this code after the <a>

To subtract number of images/websites delete the portion you do not need. Always delete the code beginning with the <a href and ending with the <a>.

Step 5 – Save and view blog.

If you do not like the action of your scroll, then you can just remove it by clicking on the gadget and selecting REMOVE.

Now you have scrolling sidebar websites with images.

My friend Bren wrote to me in Spanish, and I realized that I did not have a translator on my blog. I found this link to add a translator to your web page.

Step 1 – Select Google Translator

Click HERE on GOOGLE TRANSLATOR then add it to your web page by selecting the blog language (you select YOUR LANGUAGE), and then it will give you a code. Save the code you will need it later.

Step 1 – Add the CODE.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/ADD A GADGET and then select HTML and put in the code, and you will have a translation button on your blog.

Scrap Post Title

This lesson is awesome! You can eliminate adding a post title icon (lesson found HERE) by scrapping your image as one unit.

Step 1 – Scrap your background

Size suggestion:

390 x 55 pixels, resolution of 72

If you want to add shadows and increase your creativity, save as a png (transparent, with no white background). I always scrap at a higher pixels and resolution and then resize.

Here is the image I created for my Horse Heaven Stables blog.

Step 2 – Upload your image

Upload your image to your favorite hosting sites. I like Photobucket and Scrapbook Flair. Save the DIRECT LINK you will need it later.

Step 3 – Backup your blog

You can learn how to do that HERE.

Step 4 – Add your code.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/EDIT HTML

Use the CTRL+F (Find) to find this piece of code:

.post h3 {

After it you will add this code:

background: url(DIRECT LINK OF IMAGE); background-repeat:no-repeat;
height: 55px; text-indent: 70px;

Then adjust this part of the code:

padding: 15px;

The height must match your image height.

Step 5 – Trial and Error

You will tweak and preview your changes to get the title exactly where you want it. PLEASE preview each time to make sure the title is correct. You will adjust the HEIGHT, the TEXT-ALIGNMENT and the PADDING.

The changes I made in my sample are as a follows:

1. Add background image and height.

2. Add text-indent line.

3. Change padding to 15px and removed other numbers to move it down.

**Optional: You may want to make your post title font smaller, and you do that by changing the “font-size:140%” portion of the code. 140 is the default. To decrease the post title font size, reduce this number.**

Step 6 – Save

When you are fully satisfied with your post title background, and placement of the text, save.

My Easy Custom Blog already had the post title icon, with instructions HERE. I just left the icon (my picture) in the code and that’s why the post title background is unique, but I liked the look of it.

Now you can scrap your post title backgrounds! Here is a Word Document of these Instructions.

Easy Custom Blogs

Scrap your sidebar titles

I reviewed a lot of sites just to see the different sidebar titles, and I found some titles to be linked, and others not. Just remember the gap YOU see as the blog creator/owner, is not what others see. If you want to see how your blog looks to others, sign out of your blog, and then look at it.

Step 1 - Create your sidebar title.

The final dimensions for a 2-column minima blog are

220 pixels width (height is up to you)

Step 4 – Save and view blog.

You will need to move your gadget around to be in the proper place. You can add a title to note what they are for placement, and then remove the title after you’ve placed your sidebar title. If you want to scrap your FOLLOWERS then the gadget needs to be placed above your followers.

Now you have side bar titles.

Adding a Fairy Dust mouse trail to your blog.

Step 1 – Decide on color of your mouse trail.

Click here to get the color of your choice COLOR CHART save that color code. The color in the sample given is SILVER. You can see the Fairy Dust Mouse Trail in action on my test blog HERE.

Step 2 – Backup your blog template.

You can find directions to do that here.

Step 3 – Change your HTML code.

Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/EDIT HTML and look in the top of your HTML code for the word <head>

You will place this code directly behind the word <head>

Step 4 – PREVIEW

Give your blog time to load and you should be able to preview the mouse trail. You may want to add more “sparkles” by increasing the number in the top of the code.

Step 5 – SAVE

If you like what you see, then save your HTML template.

Now you have a fairy dust mouse trail.

I had a busy weekend, a wedding and Mother's Day. I was the "official photographer" at my cousin's wedding, and I was a nervous wreck. While I love photos, I have never been the "make sure" person but it all was fabulous....after 1,100 photos I think I covered my basis! I will get to the update on the FavIcon soon!

Making a 3 Column Blog

Way to go Webtalks for creating and sharing the 3 column template, and a lot of other amazing templates!! Thanks so much! If you would like to see the sample blog I have with the 3 column template, click here or on the image below. The header is 750 x 213 pixels (72 dpi).

Step 1 – Download the blog template

Download the blog template for Minima White here. If you would like additional information, and other selections, go to Webtalks blogspot.

Step 2 – Save the template

I like to make a new folder for whatever I’m working on. I made a folder I named Blog Templates in My Documents for easy retrieval.

Step 3 – Upload Template

Before doing anything to your blog, BACKUP your current template. You can learn how to do that HERE. That way if for any reason, you are not satisfied with the results, you can always reinstall your old template. Go to CUSTOMIZE/LAYOUT/EDIT HTML, and select BROWSE on the Upload a template from a file on your hard drive. Find the Minimawhite.xml file you downloaded in step 1.

Step 4 – CAUTION

If you have a lot of widgets (and your blog is older) you may need to save the widgets or be able to reinstall them. I installed the 3 column template on a blog that did not have a lot of widgets, so it was not a problem for me to just add them back (like my hits counter, etc.). Sometimes, non-blogger codes are the ones you need to be sure to save. If you have Feedburner, or any widgets like that, make sure to click on the HTML and save each. On the hits counter, make sure to save the number of hits prior to adding the template so you can just put the number in when you add your hits counter back.

Step 5 – Scrap your 3 Column Template

Here is the template, if you would like to scrap your background page for your 3 column template. Just click on the template below for the actual size. The template is jpg because I work in MS Digital Image Pro, and the png’s are always flattened for non MS DIP users.

The header is the same, or you can make it longer, and more narrow. Click HERE for Header instructions, and HERE for original blog background instructions. Just understand the template sizes have changed since the original instructions to accommodate screens with higher resolutions.

The template I created is a 1680 x 1050 with the 768 pixels in the “middle.” The template looks a bit off center, but I constantly uploaded and tweaked the papers to fit my columns. You may need to do the same.

I will update FAVICON information next week.

3-Column Template and More
